Elite Athletes

 

Each athlete at Track Houston has a unique story.  Each one warrants attention and support.  However, some deserve special recognition, thus we present the athletes below who consistently achieve excellence in competition, has a passion for track and field, is dedicated to race preparation, exhibit poise during competition and grace in defeat or victory. Below we feature our Junior Olympic Gold, Silver and Bronze medalists in individual events. Also past and present members of TEAM USA World Youth squads are featured.

Olu-Bunmi Okunade. Gold medalist in the 4x100, 4x400 and a Silver medalist in the 400m (1:02.07) dash at the 2007 Junior Olympics. At the 2007 USATF Regional meet, Bunmi helped her Bantam girls team win both the 4x100 and the 4x400.  Individually she earned a silver medal in the 400m.  At the Gulf Coast Championships in Houston, Bunmi anchored her 4x100 relay to a meet record ( 54.02) and earned Gold in the 4x400.  She is the city champion in the 400m Bantam girls division.

LaRoya Johnson, a TEAM USA World Youth Team member, was ranked #1 in the USA in the long jump (Intermediate Girls, 19-11.75) in 2006.  She is a double USATF Gold medalist in the long jump for the 2005 (5.8m) and 2006 (6.09m) seasons.  Johnson, a senior at Alief Elsik HS, is a 2006 regional qualifer in the the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and long jump. She earned a Bronze medal at the 2006 UIL Texas state championships in the 4x200 and was a 4th place finalist in the long jump.

Jeremiah Guice, Primary Boy, excelled at the USATF Regional Champioships.  He won triple Golds in the 100m (14.34), 200 (29.74), and with his team in the 4x100m relay.  This relay team finished the season ranked #1 in the USA! Jeremiah also won the 100m and 200m at the Gulf Coast Championships in June. He is looking forward to competing as a Bantam in 2008 to test his skills at the national level.


 

Paul Kopesky, JR Double Gold medalist at the 2007 Junior Olympics in the 100m Hurdles (13.41) and the 200m Hurdles (25.08).  Contributed to a 6th place finish of the Track Houston 4x400 relay (3:38.80) within minutes of winning gold in the hurdles.

Chance Casey finished the 2007 Junior Olympics in grand fashion earning four (4) national medals: Gold 400m Hurdles (52.22), Silver 110m  Hurdles (14.03), Silver 4x100 Meter Relay and Bronze in the 4x400m Relay.  Chance earned Gold and Silver at the USATF Regional meet in Odessa.  He is the city champion in the 110m Hurdles and Silver medalist in the 400m Hurdles and 4x400.  Casey is also an outstanding city ranked football player for Crosby HS.

Matthew Kosecki is a junior at Humble HS and a 2006 invitee to the USATF World Youth selection pool.  Matt is currently ranked #3 in the USATF (Intermediate Divsion) for the javelin (191'05.25") and # 6 for the discus (166'01.00").  Matt placed 12th at the 2007 US Junior National against NCAA Division 1 athletes.  He is the 2006 USATF Gold medalist in the javelin (55.43m) and the Silver medalist in the discus (49.11).  At the 2006 UIL State meet Kosecki was a 7th place finalist as a freshman.


 

Sweeney

 Isaiah Sweeney is a memeber of the 2007 Team USA World Youth team which competed in the fifth edition of the IAAF World Youth Championships in Ostrava, Czech Republic.  Sweeny earned a Gold medal in the sprint medley running the 100m leg of the race.  In the 100m dash, Isaiah made it to the semi-final round (10.97). He has a PR of 10.51 achieved at the 2007 UIL Texas State track meet. Sweeney has verbally committed to University of Houston in football.
