Well it looks like Track Houston athletes are picking up where they left off in 2012, setting new records. At the 2013 USATF Gulf Championships the 11-12 boys 4x800 meter relay team of Joshua Brooks, Ian Gilmore, Lucas Bourgoyne and Phillip Green broke the meet record in a time of 9:32.67. This record was reclaimed by Track Houston after a 2 year absent and hopes are that it will remain in the home of Track Houston for the foreseeable future. Adding to the 11-12 boys record count, Lucas Bourgoyne set a new record in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:22.72 beating the old record by almost 30 seconds. On the last day of competition Lucas emerged with yet another record. In the 1500 meter race, he finished with the time of 4:43.46.
In an effort to not be out-done, the 13-14 boys 4x800 meter relay team claimed their own new record. The team of Deonte Bradford, Matthew Abrams, Randall Jubilee and Tyler Litton set a new Gulf association record with a time of 8:35.00. The previous record of 8:43.20 was owned by Track Houston for over 12 years and boast records in all three relay; 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay.
Last year was Camila Vicens first time participating in track and field and she ended the season winning 3 national medals and setting the USATF Gulf and Region 12 records in the 9-10 girls 1500 meter race walk. This year she moved up to the 11-12 girls division and has already set a national record. WOW! At the 2013 AAU Gulf District meet in Houston, she established a new national record in the 1500 meter race walk with a time of 7:39.39 in the 11-girls division. With 4 major meets left, it should be very interesting to see if Camila can add 4 more records to the 3 she already has.
